How to Plan a Garden Wedding at The Z Hall in Owosso

How to Plan a Garden Wedding at The Z Hall in Owosso

Planning an outdoor wedding involves a lot of moving pieces, and the venue you choose determines how smoothly those pieces fit together. At The Z Hall in Owosso, our garden is a fully developed outdoor event space, not just a lawn with potential. Walkways connect the ceremony area to an open gathering space, and the grounds include mature hardwoods, flowers, and sculptures that give the setting real character. The gazebo and fountain create natural focal points for your ceremony and portraits without requiring much added décor. Once you see how a day flows here, the planning process becomes a lot clearer.

How a Garden Wedding Day Comes Together at The Z Hall

Most couples come to us with the same question: what does the day actually look like from start to finish? The answer is easier to explain here than at most venues, because the spaces are designed to connect. Here's how a garden wedding day typically unfolds when you book The Z Hall.

The Space Itself

The garden accommodates up to 150 guests, making it well-suited to intimate and mid-size celebrations. After the ceremony, the fire pit and s'mores table give guests somewhere comfortable to gather, and lawn games including cornhole, giant connect four, and giant chess are available on site. That means cocktail hour entertainment is already handled without any outside rentals or extra coordination.

The ceremony areas are also dog-friendly, which matters to more couples than you might expect.

Your Indoor Backup Is Already Confirmed

Weather is the most common source of anxiety for couples planning outdoor ceremonies, and we want to put it to rest early. If conditions change on your wedding day, your ceremony moves into the Great Room, which features Michigan's largest wooden dance floor, chandelier lighting, and exposed brick. Our staff manages the transition. Tammy Boudreau, who married here in the garden, mentioned that when rain threatened her day, the team was prepared to move everything inside immediately, and the event was phenomenal regardless. Knowing that the plan is in place before your wedding week removes a real layer of stress.

Prep Morning for Both Sides

The day begins in two separate prep spaces. The Fireside Room serves as your bridal suite, with makeup mirrors, a fireplace, and a private, comfortable setting for you and your wedding party. Morning service includes coffee, water, and light snacks, and optional upgrades like a mimosa bar or sandwich spread are available if you want the morning to feel more like a celebration.

The Z House is the groom's space. It includes a full kitchen, a living room, and sleeping arrangements for six, so the morning is relaxed rather than rushed. It receives the same morning service.

The Flow From Ceremony to Reception

Guests gather in the garden for the ceremony, then transition to the bar lounge or Great Room during cocktail hour while your reception space is finalized. Dinner runs buffet style out of the Legacy Room's stainless serving lines, which keeps food fresh and service efficient. Our event day team handles drinks, buffet replenishment, candle lighting, room transitions, and cleanup throughout, so your wedding party stays present instead of managing logistics.

Building Your Menu

Appetizers, late-night stations like a French fry bar or donut wall, and bar service with hosted, semi-hosted, or cash bar options are all available. Vegan, gluten-free, and allergy-friendly menus can be accommodated.

The bar is staffed by licensed bartenders and offers cocktails, wine, beer, seltzer, and non-alcoholic options. No outside alcohol is permitted, and IDs are checked for all guests who appear under 40.
