About The Z Hall

Celebrating Life through Love!

 Dynamic 100+ Year ZCBJ History

The Z Hall is nestled in the quaint town of Owosso, right in the heart of Mid-Michigan. The building housed a Czech community fraternal club that was established in 1916 and known as the ZCBJ Hall, Lodge #242 Owosso.  ZCBJ is the abbreviation for the Czech words “Zapadni Ceska Bratrska Jednota” which translates into Western Fraternal Life Association (WFLA). This building came with a rich history and Michigan's largest wooden dance floor! If only the walls could tell the captivating stories of the history and all the celebrations they've stood through. Join your story to the legacy of this pre-prohibition era jewel.  Read about the history of this thriving generational community in our Legacy Room.

A New Chapter - The Z Hall

The building and property underwent a complete renovation upgrade in 2019 through a change of ownership and management to become a premier mid-Michigan wedding venue and event venue.  Dr. David Skjaerlund, along with involvement of his daughter, Cora, are excited to provide new leadership in creating and operating a special gathering place for community and family celebrations. His vision is sparked by his natural desire to live life to the fullest in a way that portrays the excellence, elegance and extravagance of life as God empowers. He leads with a passion to foster community and to create a relational space that highlights what really matters: celebrating life through love. Read more about this new chapter in an article written in the Argus Press that is linked below!

While changing ownership in 2019, The Z Hall still houses the Michigan Polka Hall of Fame.  The Z Hall carries on the tradition of amazing cuisine, including the renown Czech chicken.
